5 week update

I know its been awhile since we've updated so just wanted to fill everyone in on the happenings lately.

Seattle got hit with a big snow storm a few weeks ago. It was way bigger than we are used to. Unfortunately since they are so rare (at least in the way of huge amounts and sticking around for awhile) that we don't really have the equipment to handle the roads. That and the roads are very hilly. So it's not something you want to venture out in when it happens. We ended up with probably a foot or so and were unable to get out of the driveway. Kanton walked to the grocery store to pick up a few essentials and some kitty litter to help make things less slick. Luckily he saw our neighbor at the store - they gave Kanton a ride home and let us use their snow shovel.

A good day was spent digging our way out. Luckily we only ended up "stranded" at home a few days. We ended up being able to make it over to see my family on Christmas morning (although the whole trip made me nervous!) and had a great day with everyone. Christmas this year was for the kids - the adults didn't buy for each other this year. I think next year will be more fun, though, since Orin can then be more interactive and open his own gifts. Thanks to all who got him stuff! He got some great clothes, toys and some money that we are going to start a savings account up with.

Unfortunately on the way home from Christmas Kanton's car died just as we were pulling into the driveway. Since he got it back from the body shop after the accident the engine light was on which we thought was strange. It seems to be working again now, but we are taking it in tomorrow to get it checked out.


Our medical bills all came in the mail recently. I couldn't believe it, but the total bill ended up being right around $25,000. Thank goodness we had insurance! We still have to pay a bit, but I can't imagine having to pay for that whole bill. Eeek! Our insurance isn't as good in 09 as we had it in 08 so good thing we had him in 08 too!


Some people have been asking about birth announcements and photos and we wanted to let everyone know that we got some pictures taken a few weeks ago. The birth announcements have been ordered as well, we are just waiting for them to arrive. We are getting pictures to send to people as belated Christmas gifts, so we apologize for the delay! With the snow and such going on its been impossible to get anything here on time (we didn't have garbage or recycling picked up for 4 weeks! And mail stopped coming arund Dec 20 and didn't start up again until about Dec 26).

We sure don't want to jinx it, but Orin is such a good baby so far. He isn't terribly fussy (most of the time) and is sleeping sometimes between 5 - 7 hour stretches. He is smiling and cooing a lot lately which of course just melts our hearts!
